I was an apprentice at Maidstone UTD when Darren played for the 'Stones'. I remember quite clearly that we had a reserve cup match at Cambridge. I was a 5'1'0", spotty 17 year-old and Darren a towering 6'2" or so professional. As we walked out onto the pitch to face the 'U's, wearing the 9 shirt was none other than man-mountain, Dion Dublin. Oxbrow took one look at him, then turn to me and said, "You take the number 9". I gave away a penalty in the 2nd minute as I tried in vain to beat Dublin to a header. Darren now plays for some Mickey Mouse outfit.
