Declan was appointed manager of Derry City on the 6th January 2012.
More on his playing career after leaving Ipswich.
Started at Omagh Town, winning the Ulster Young Footballer of the Year Award in 1994, he then moved to Glentoran helping them win the Irish Cup in 95/96.He then moved to play for his hometwon team, Derry City during the Summer of 1996, and played in the Republic of Ireland Cup Final but this time was on the losing side.
During 97/98 moved back to Omagh Town and then in 98/99 moved to Institute. He retired at the end of the 01/02 season and went into Youth coaching.
He played for Northern Ireland Youth team whilst at Ipswich after he left he made one appearnce for the Northern Ireland U21 team v Rumania in 1994.

Was placed on "gardening leave" by Dunfermaline after they sacked their manager- Stephen Kenny. Kenny has returned to Ireland to take over Derry City for the second time, Declan may re-join Kenny at Derry.

On Sunday (3 Dec) Declan will be on the bench as one of Derry City`s coaches as they Play in the Republic of Ireland Cup Final at Lansdowne Rd, Dublin. The end of the season will see a shake up in the coaching team as the Derry manager on Sunday has already started a new job as manager of Dunfermiline in Scotland. On Saturday he will coach Dunfermiline and then fly back to Ireland for his last game as Derry manager. Declan is likely to stay on at Derry as he also runs their Youth and academy set ups.
