Great days watching Eddie in the 1960,s whilst scoffing sweets in the old north stand of Portman Road.

I've just seen this and so I'm a bit late. Graham Roberts, the year was 1962, the only year Nigel played in the 1st XI with Eddie, as Cassidy left school early to work at Birds Eye. We probably did score 7 in that game but Bungay GS did not score 4. No team scored more than once against us that season. Eddie played on the right wing, not the left and I know that because left wing was my position that year.

I played against Eddie for Bungay Grammar School in the early 60s, we lost one game 7-4 against Eddie's team, Lowestoft Grammar, Nigel Cassidy scored 4 for Lowestoft, helped by Eddie on their left wing.
Joined Town as an Apprentice in August 1963.

Unfortunately Eddie died in January 2011. His son Adam died in the Hillsborough Disaster and Eddie was hospitalised.Very sad. I actually played against Eddie when he was in the Ipswich Town Youth Team back in 1964.
[Eddie Spearritt, the former Ipswich, Brighton, Carlisle and Gillingham player is very much alive and well and living in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and is not be confused with the Eddie Spearritt who lost his son in the Hillsborough tradegy 25 years ago - Ralph]

Eddie coached Rochedale Rovers in the Intermediate League Brisbane, Australia and won promotion to the Premier League (1983).
I believe Eddie still lives in Australia.

1. I believe that at different times he played in every position for Ipswich, including substitute goalkeeper. 2. I believe that he once held the record for the longest thrown in in football. 3. He is the uncle of Hannah Spearritt of SClub7!
