Joined Town as an apprentice in 1981. Spent time on loan at Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic (November 1981), Peterborough and Reading in September 1983 (not September 1981 as previously noted). He joined the later in a permanent deal in July 1984. He made the No. 1 spot his own in September (1984), and was ever present for the next two-and-a-half seasons winning a Third Division championship medal in 1985-86. He went part-time in 1988 to concentrate on his business interests and joined Wokingham Town where he made over 150 League and cup appearances.
