  • Laurie also spent some time as a coach at Lowestoft town, taking over as caretaker towards the end of the 92 season after the resignation of Jimmy Campbell. He actually played in one game during this spell at short notice at the age of 41. He conceded 3 goals but Lowestoft won the match 7-3!

Did Laurie Sivell, ever get any other acting parts after Escape to Victory?

Remember him deputising for David Best in an Ipswich Euro game at Portman Road, but I can't remember Town's opposition, but it was at Portman Road and it was a 1-0 win and the games only goal, was scored late on, the other feature from the game was a sterling display by Kevin Beattie, who seemed to have popped up everywhere that night and it was possibly him that scored the games only goal, somehow.

On the small side for a goalie, but Paul Cooper was, too and he went onto become a penalty kick saver on more than an occasion.

Laurie, when I seen him play did however never appear to let Town down, I remember that much about him and like Paul Cooper, too, he was left handed and footed.

Even when young, always had a keen interest in sport. Even lampost cricket, managing to bowl him out once in a while.

  • Laurie played the part of the German keeper in "Escape to Victory". Now runs his own fish buisness in Lowestoft, his son- Adam played for Kirkley FC.
