Released by Middlesbrough in the early stages of the 1989-90 season, the ex-Boro' YTS boy played for the Town youth side, as a trialist, in the FA Youth 3rd victory over Chelsea in January 1990. By the 4th round in mid-February he'd signed a permanent deal with Town just in time to face his former team mates at Ayresome Park, a tie that ended in a 2-0 defeat for the Blues.
