I well remember what a nice guy trevor was. 1964,i was a 16 year old making my debut at Layer Road v Colchester Utd.I was so nervous i felt sick.this guy came and sat with me for most of the pre game, coaching and mentoring me such that when I went out i felt king of the world.I played with confidence and kept my place going forward for some time. Now in Melbourne ,Australia I so often think of that evening, and the difference one guy made to what became one of the highlights of my life.

I worked with Trevor for many years . Trevor was a true gentleman. I never heard him swear or lose his temper. he was very modest about his achievements as a professional footballer. Let me tell you, he had to be some player to get into the Ipswich town squad as a youngster because they had some great players at the time. Trevor Smith , a true gentleman.

In answer to Neil Brown`s comments: Ernie Tagg who was the manager of Crewe at the time offered me a contract, after further discussion with him I decided to quit professional football after twice breaking same leg in the same place during my career at Ipswich and I did not want further injuries. First break occurred at Ipswich and the second break I was on loan to Cambridge City playing at Poole in Dorset when I was kicked in exactly the same place as the previous break. I played for a further ten minutes not knowing the extent of my injury until I had it checked out at Cambridge hospital the next morning where it was confirmed to be a fracture in the same place. I then returned by taxi to Lowestoft and resumed my contract with Ipswich until the end of the season.

Although you have Trevor Smith's next team down as Crewe he never played for them. He may have gone for a trial but was not signed on. He did however the following season play for Cambridge City.
