Match Report

Chopra breaks Pompey hearts

Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton is worried his depleted side will not be able to complete their fixture list unless they bring in loan players.

Appleton, whose side will go into administration on Friday, saw his team lose after Michael Chopra buried a header in the 13-minute.

Ex-Manchester United midfielder Appleton said: "We need to make sure we have enough players to fulfil our fixture list. We have a lot of players out injured now.

"We had two injuries and we have about 15 players if that in our squad now. We need to sit down and see if we can bring a few players in on loan.

"We are not in a position to rest anybody at the moment even though I would like to. We have a much smaller squad this time then we did last time the club went into administration.

"It is what is though and hopefully all the players can get a second wind and we can push on for the remaining games and secure the club's future."

The Tractor Boys secured the three points when Jay Emmanuel-Thomas crossed for Damien Delaney who hit the post and Chopra headed in the rebound from six yards.

Ipswich boss Paul Jewell admitted even he clapped the thousands of Portsmouth fans who stayed behind after the match in protest of how it is run.

Former Wigan chief Jewell said: "I will go out there and clap them as well. The fans are what it is all about and I know the players went out to clap them.

"I thought we deserved the win. We played well and could have scored more goals then we did.

"It was a tough time to come here, with everything that is going on."
