Match Report

Third Straight Win For TownBy ChevBlue

Town, a mix of fringe players and young reserves, defeated Conference side Barnet by 2 goals to 1 on a balmy night in North London.

A goal in each half by Pablo Counago was just enough to see off a Barnet side containing former Town players Neil Midgley and Stuart Niven.

Kicking uphill in the first half (a slope not of Yeovillian proportions, but a slop none the less) Town got off to to a good start and created the first real chances of the game.

The best of these fell to Richard Naylor, who, finding himself in a one-on-one with the home 'keeper shot straight into his arms.

At the other end the Town back-line marshalled by Justin Miller and Wayne Brown, cleared a number of crosses by the Bee's attack.

Long range efforts then followed from Nabil Abidallah, Martijn Reuser, Richard Naylor and Pablo Counago before the Spaniard put Town ahead after 32 minutes.

Abidallah swung in a corner from the right which the Barnet defence failed to clear, the ball fell to Wayne Brown who scuffed his shot and Counago nipped in to poke home from a yard out.

Former Blue's youngster Midgley almost levelled a minute later but James Pullen, in the Town goal, just managed to punch away a shot that looked bound for the top let hand corner of his goal.

The home side deservedly levelled the scores on 37 minutes when Arber headed powerfully home from a corner after a few minutes of sustained pressure.

The second half was as a rather lack lustre affair memorable only for a superb strike from Counago for his second and the game's winning goal.

Counago picked up the ball just inside the Barnet half, carried the ball to the 'D' of the penalty area, and hit a curving shot past the home 'keeper and into the top right-hand corner of the goal.

The only other real chance of the second period came towards the end of the game when Lee Beevers hit the right hand upright.

Another promising performance by the Town squad, witnessed by what would have been a very small crowd but for another good turn out by Town fan's numbering around 150.
