Darren Ambrose struck twice in the last twenty minutes to win the last of Town's pre-season friendlies against Spanish Primera División side Celta Vigo.

For this one I escaped the confines of the Britannia for the first time in 16 seasons and gave the new Greene King Stand the old once over. And in Block X in the upper tier no less, with acres of leg room and a comfy padded seat (not forgetting the arm rests) which came as a welcome relief to me I can tell you having suffered a haemorrhoid attack earlier in the week. Anyway to the match ...

Marcus Bent was presented with first opening of the game after 10 minutes, but through on goal and with just the 'keeper to beat he struck his shot just inches wide of the post.

Darren Bent replaced the injured Finidi George midway through the first period and headed a Jamie Clapham free-kick just over the bar just before the half-hour mark.

Further chances would do begging before the break. Darren Ambrose fed Jim Magilton, but his shot was cleared away for a corner, and a Marcus Stewart shot was just wide of the goal.

Celta made no less that 10 subs at half time, (Sergio the only visiting player to see out the entire ninety minutes) one of the incongruous arrangements teams make for friendly fixtures, and one that I bet George Burley wished he'd had the option of during several of last season's Premiership games.

Benni McCarthy had the first real attempt of the second half but scuffed his shot 10-yards wide of the Town goal and several other long range efforts from the visitors cleared the bar my several feet.

But the South African made no mistake to put Celta ahead after 54 minutes. Sebastian Mendez hit a fierce cross into the goal mouth, and McCarthy saw off the challenge of Fabian Wilnis to fire past Andy Marshall from eight yards out.

The goal served as a wake up call for Town who began to play some decent attractive football and where rewarded fifteen minutes later when Darren Ambrose hit the first of his two goals.

A cross field pass was deflected into his path and his shot beat the Celta 'keeper at his near post.

His second goal, and Town's winner, came just before the 90 minute mark when he volleyed home a cross from Darren Bent.

Two weeks time its my new seat in the North Stand Upper that will come under my posteriors appraisal .... hopefully the Boot's patented relief ointment will have completed its work by then. But will Jackson's builders have completed theirs ?
