Match Report

Johnson brace undoes Town

Striker David Johnson scored both his side's goals against his former club as Ipswich fell to 10-man Nottingham Forest.

Despite the dismissal of David Prutton, Forest secured the victory which keeps them in third place in Division One.

However, Ipswich had the lion's share of the chances and should have headed back to East Anglia with at least a point.

It was the visitors went close to opening the scoring after just three minutes when Darren Ward tipped John McGreal's shot over the bar.

But it was Forest who took the lead with their first attack of the game after five minutes when Johnson scored his 19th goal of the season.

Johnson ran onto a long goal-kick from Ward, beat goalkeeper Paul Gerrard and bounced the ball into an empty net.

Ipswich responded immediately and had the best part of the next 20 minutes with Darren Bent and Fabian Wilnis both going close.

Joe Royle's side started the second half again the brighter side and continued to press.

Jim Magilton's cross found Bent who fired the ball at the legs of the diving Ward.

But Ipswich were punished for not converting their chances as Johnson grabbed his second with a brilliant 20-yard shot to beat Gerrard.

Ipswich eventually responded two minutes from time - but it took an own-goal from Gareth Williams.

Forest were reduced to 10 men when Prutton was sent off for his second bookable offence.
