Match Report

Jewell finally wins at Pride Park

Paul Jewell got a rare victory at Pride Park - to make his return to his old club and spark angry crowd demonstrations against Derby's owners.

Jewell never won a Premier League game during his miserable 13-months in charge, but he was delighted to turn the tables on his old club with his second successive win as new Ipswich boss.

"I did not experience winning games too often when I was at Derby. So it is nice and I can see some green shoots of progress," said Jewell.

Jimmy Bullard lit up the night on his debut with a stunning 30-yard volley and David Norris struck for Town's first away win in six games.

"Bullard gives us something different and he just wants to get on the ball all the time. It was an excellent debut from him," said Jewell.

Norris' winner, when he exchanged passes with Tamas Priskin on the edge of the area prompted angry scenes among the die-hard Derby fans.

Chants of "stand up if you hate the Yanks" and "sack the board" rang out in protest against the club's American owners as they slumped to a ninth defeat in 11 games.

"It is a confidence thing with the players and with each defeat and knock they take, it affects them that little bit more," said Clough.

"And when the fans start getting on at the players with a few moans and groans that affects them too."

Alberto Bueno's tap-in and his first strike for three months gave Derby an early lead, but it was another false dawn for Clough who is looking anxiously over his shoulder at the relegation scrap.
