Ipswich suffered a setback in their bid to claim automatic promotion to the Premiership, last night's defeat at Molineux allowing Wigan to stay second in the Championship as Wolves hinted at what might have been had they not drawn almost half their games.

An electrifying opening spell from Glenn Hoddle's side left Ipswich two goals down within the first quarter of the match and unable to recover. Wolves are unbeaten in 14 matches, but the former England coach insists a decision will have to wait over whether he stays beyond the end of the season. "There is a lot of talking to be done," he said. "The board has to decide whether they want me to stay and I have to decide what is right for me."

From the moment Colin Cameron gave them a fourth-minute lead, it was Wolves who looked the side with the Premiership in their sights. They could have been five or six goals in front by the time Carl Cort scored their 22nd-minute second, and would have been but for the Ipswich goalkeeper, Kelvin Davis.

He had little chance with the opener after David Unsworth's attempt to clear a Lee Naylor cross had run straight into the path of Cameron, who hooked it home off the underside of the crossbar.

Naylor's superbly weighted pass then released Cameron on an equally well judged run before Cort arrived to meet his cross with a simple finishing touch.

Ian Westlake hit the bar and Shefki Kuqi clipped a post, but Ipswich were second best. Indeed, they were indebted to Davis again after he defied Seol Ki-Hyeon with the save of the night two minutes from the end.
