Match Report

Barnsley 1-1 Ipswich

Jacob Mellis rescued a point for Barnsley with a last-gasp equaliser.

Midfielder Mellis collected a pass from Kieran Trippier in the third minute of stoppage time before drilling his low strike beyond Marton Fulop.

Jason Scotland had put Ipswich in front on 82 minutes after Luke Steele had parried Lee Martin's shot.

Fulop had earlier denied Danny Haynes, Garry O'Connor and Bobby Hassell, while Connor Wickham, Tamas Priskin and Lee Martin shot wide for the visitors.

Ipswich had won their previous three Championship fixtures and must have thought it would become four when Scotland struck.

But their performance had scarcely warranted a victory and Mellis' second goal in successive games since joining the Tykes on loan from Chelsea was just reward for a good second-half performance.

The first half was poor and Ipswich suffered a blow when the influential David Norris went off injured after 15 minutes.

Barnsley's play after the restart forced a series of saves from Fulop, the pick of which was probably his full-stretch effort to deny Haynes.
