Match Report

Ipswich 4 Leyton Orient 1

A Danny Haynes double inspired Ipswich to a comfortable 4-1 win over Coca-Cola League One side Leyton Orient in the first round of the Carling Cup.

The 20-year-old winger netted a first-half brace to ensure the Championship outfit's safe passage in round two.

Ipswich made eight changes following Saturday's defeat against Preston, while Orient started with the same team that beat Hereford on the opening day.

Danny Granville had a great chance to open the scoring for the visitors but his fourth-minute header was cleared off the line by Town winger Alan Quinn.

Ipswich went straight on the attack and only a last ditch tackle from Tamika Mkandawire denied Jon Walters as the striker bore down on goal.

After 13 minutes, Town winger Danny Haynes came close with a rasping angled drive that was tipped over by Orient stopper Glenn Morris.

The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Haynes outpaced Orient defender Brian Saah and beat Morris at his near post with a low drive.

Town went further ahead a minute later when Tommy Miller drove home from the edge of the box after Morris punched out a Chris Casement cross.

In the 42nd minute, Walters had a chance to extend Town's lead but shot straight at Morris with only the goalkeeper to beat.

But two minutes later Haynes did make it three, netting his second of the night after running on to an Alan Lee through ball.

Ipswich made it four in the 48th minute when Lee flicked home a Quinn left-wing cross as the Suffolk side dominated.

But Orient hit back straight from the kick off, with Adam Boyd chipping Shane Supple from 25 yards following a mix-up in the Town defence.

Morris saved from Town substitute Kevin Lisbie in the 88th minute but the match had long been over as a contest by then.
