Match Report

Ipswich 1-0 Kidderminster (aet)

Teenager Dean Bowditch came off the bench to fire Ipswich to a 1-0 extra-time win over Kidderminster in the Carling Cup at Portman Road.

Craig Hinton failed to clear a long ball properly and Bowditch surged into the area and rammed home his first senior goal just 14 seconds into the extra period.

Ipswich dominated early on and George Santos saw a fierce 25-yard effort well blocked by Kidderminster keeper Stuart Brock.

Adam Willis gave the Tractor Boys a scare when he got on the end of Graham Ward's corner but Kelvin Davis was equal to it.

And it was the visitors who had the best chance of the first half 10 minutes before the interval.

A superb throughball from Sam Shilton sent John Williams clear, but with only the keeper to beat be blazed his effort over the bar.

Half-time substitute Marcus Bent beat two defenders to create a great opportunity for himself but Brock again pulled off an impressive save.

Neither side could force a winner and it was left to 17-year-old Bowditch to perform his heroics.
