Ryan Tunnicliffe chose to join the Latics on loan from Fulham, rather than return to the Tractor Boys where he had been earlier in the season and confessed to spilling the beans on his old team-mates.

"I tried to give the manager the little details he likes to know," admitted Tunnicliffe.

"Things like who are who the best headers, how people play, stuff like that - anything I can help with.

"Obviously I enjoyed my time at Ipswich but I'm a Wigan player now so I would happily do anything to try and beat them and I'm glad we did."

He even warned about Tommy Smith, who put Ipswich ahead before James McClean struck twice with Leon Barnett nodding one in between.

"I told the Gaffer before he was probably the best header and the most dangerous at set pieces," midfielder Tunnicliffe added.

"We tried marking him but it was a second phase and we didn't clear the box as well as we should have done and didn't pick up and he toed one in."

Tunnicliffe made 23 Championship starts for Town in the first half of the season before going to Fulham where a change of manager saw him being shipped out.

He said: "At the time Wigan was a better fit for me.

"I spoke to Ipswich and at the time it couldn't be done. Then I went and met (Uwe) Rosler and liked what he had to say."

Wigan have won eight on the bounce under Rosler and Tunnicliffe has been impressed by the German.

"He's very good," said the midfielder who has played for Sir Alex Ferguson and Darren Ferguson at Peterborough.

"He's very enthusiastic and loves to get the small details right. Since he's come to Wigan they've not lost very many so it's proving right. "

The defeat leaves Ipswich with a mountain to climb if they are to reach the play-offs, but midfielder Luke Hyam refuses to believe they are out of contention.

"We have three massive games coming up." said the Ipswich-born player ahead of games against Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Derby.

"This was a little blip but if we can get results in the next three games then things will turn around.

"Wigan have won nine on the bounce and are high on confidence.

"If can get a couple of wins then we can be right back in the mix and that is the beauty of the Championship."
