Match Report

Peterborough 3 Ipswich 1

Liam Dickinson announced his arrival at London Road in style by inspiring rock-bottom Peterborough United to three precious points, as the Posh saw off Ipswich Town 3-1.

The loan ace, captured from League One side Brighton on Monday for the rest of the season, enjoyed a dream debut scoring one goal and creating another.

He was at the centre of a cracking comeback as Jim Gannon's men recovered from going behind early on to keep alive their faint hopes of escaping the clutches of relegation.

That certainly didn't look like happening during a tame first period dominated by the visitors.

Ipswich hit the front after nine minutes when Daryl Murphy struck for the third time in as many appearances since joining the Tractor Boys during the transfer window.

He was left with a simple tap-in from point-blank range after Posh keeper Joe Lewis completely missed a Grant Leadbitter corner.

Lewis redeemed himself with two smart saves before a stretching Craig Mackail-Smith was only denied an equaliser by a Jack Colback block just after the half-hour.

Mackail-Smith was surprisingly substituted in favour of Reuben Reid soon after and the bold move paid dividends for boss Gannon.

Reid earned the free-kick from which Dickinson curled in a sublime leveller three minutes after the interval to haul Posh back on level terms.

Lewis pulled off another excellent stop moments later when dashing from his line to deny Jonathan Walters, but that proved to be a rare moment of alarm as the home side took control.

Josh Simpson saw a shot well blocked by Damien Delaney before Posh hit the front with a cracking 63rd minute strike.

Dickinson laid a Jake Livemore pass into the feet of the on-rushing Lee Frecklington who coolly slotted past Arran Lee-Barrett.

The Ipswich keeper prevented his side from falling further behind pulling off smart saves when Chris Whelpdale and Dickinson shots took wicked deflections, but he was powerless to prevent Craig Morgan sealing the points.

The Wales international headed home a Frecklington corner five minutes from time to earn Gannon his second home victory since stepping into the Posh hotseat.
