Match Report

Farum-Ipswich 2-1Danish perspective by Carsten Lund

Farum Boldklub are still unbeaten in friendlies this season. Tonight English 1. Division team Ipswich FC visited and were beaten 2-1 (1-0) at Farum Park

Of course there is no reason to get too optimistic because of victories in pre-season friendlies. The more interesting aspects here are the style and the tactics – and when it comes to this Farum has a lot to be happy about. The team will start the Superliga with two spectator friendly qualities: Pace and a willingness to attack. In now four friendlies Farum has underlined that they will entertain and attack, and tonights match proofed that they have the people to do it.

Except for a period in the second half, it was the home team that set the pace – and with a brilliant Henrik Zarp in the goal the sting was taken out of Ipswich in the first half. Christian Andersen gave in the first half Thomas Andreasen and Martin Johansen (just gone 30) the chance and they did well. Thomas Andreasen looks to be enjoying himself – and because of his pace he often participated in good offensive moves from the back.

In the opposite side Ulrik Vinzents was as always playing well – and he hit the post after 90 seconds which left Thomas Shultz with an easy goal scoring opportunity. He didn’t let Farum down

After the break Joergen Nielsen took over in goal – and it was a bit of a flat feeling when Ipswich 50 seconds after scored. Alan Armstrong dribbled past and put the ball to rest in the Farum goal.

Poul Hubertz came on for Martin Johansen and he often attacked from the right. Once the big player has a clear track not many players can follow him. Poul Hubertz looks like a very interesting and important player for this years tournament. The match ended with a perfect goal. Nichlas Hindsberg sent the corner kick right onto the head of Rasmus Marvits at the far post, and he converted the chance. In the last fifteen minutes Farum was all over Ipswich and Dennis Sorensen had a good chance that went millimeters over the cross bar.

It was a very good match that will give the players even more confidence. The squad of 26 men has the strength to do well in the league, and only the last friendly on Saturday against Esbjerg in Farum Park can destroy the good pre-season record. Now Farum can only wait for the premiere against Aarhus on Sunday 28 July. The busses leave at 10.30 and they should be filled up!
