Match Report

QPR 1 Ipswich 1

Marc Nygaard came off the bench to earn a valuable point for rock-bottom QPR in their Championship clash with Ipswich.

Sylvain Legwinski hit a superb opener for Ipswich shortly after half time but Nygaard struck in the 74th minute as Mick Harford's battling side denied Ipswich a first win on the road this season.

Harford remains in caretaker charge of Rangers following John Gregory's sacking, but his full-time job prospects appeared to take a knock when Legwinski smashed his second goal of the season.

Although Rangers, buoyed by their first victory of the season against Norwich last time out, started brightly it was Town who created the first chance when the unmarked Billy Clarke headed Alan Lee's cross straight at Lee Camp.

Rangers almost made their possession count in the 21st minute when on-loan Birmingham striker Rowan Vine hit a 20-yard drive which flew inches wide of Neil Alexander's left hand post.

Miller was making his 150th appearance for Ipswich, but the midfielder's landmark game lasted only 32 minutes before he was forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Moments later Rangers should have gone ahead, but Mikele Leigertwood opted to cross when a shot seemed the better option, before Martin Rowlands' shot forced a smart save from Alexander.

After the break Town substitute Gary Roberts sent in a dangerous low cross but Clarke could not tuck away his shot from the angle.

But seven minutes into the second half Legwinski lit up the game when he collected Owen Garvan's throw and smashed a dipping right-footed volley from 22 yards past the helpless Camp.

Harford responded by replacing defender Michael Mancienne with striker Nygaard, and the Dane was quickly into the action when he headed Gareth Ainsworth's cross over the top.

Clarke missed a gilt-edged chance to double Town's lead when, with the goal gaping, he sliced Roberts' cut-back across the six-yard box and inches wide.

And he was made to pay in the 74th minute when Nygaard was left in acres of space to slot the ball past Alexander from just inside the area for his first goal of the season.

Town skipper Jason De Vos was guilty of a shocking miss when he headed Garvan's cross wide from two yards out, while Camp produced a stunning late save to keep out a header from Town sub Danny Haynes.

At the other end Vine volleyed wide five minutes from time but neither side was capable of finding a winner.
