Match Report

Ipswich 3-1 Colchester

Jim Magilton saw a brilliant Ipswich late show claim the bragging rights in East Anglia in style.

Colchester were good value for their 31st-minute lead, courtesy of Clive Platt.

But the Tractor Boys hit top gear after a sluggish start and roared to a derby victory on the back of second-half goals from Jonathan Walters, Liam Trotter and Danny Haynes.

There was nothing to separate these rivals until striker Platt scored with a venomous right-foot effort from 20 yards.

But the mood inside Portman Road changed the moment Walters equalised after 71 minutes, then teenage subs Trotter and Haynes polished off Geraint Williams' side with a pair of headers.

Colchester led when Johnnie Jackson fed the ball to Platt and he gave home keeper Neil Alexander no chance with a rising effort.
