PAUL JEWELL'S DENIAL
PAUL Jewell stormed out without speaking to the media last night as Ipswich slumped to the bottom of the Championship.
Jewell has been hanging on to his job for weeks and admitted after Saturday's defeat at Hull he was considering his future.
After a third loss in a row in a run of 11 games without a win, Jewell could be closer to quitting, just as he did when he was Derby manager in December 2008 after defeat, ironically enough, by Ipswich.
Assistant manager Chris Hutchins said: "Paul is still the Ipswich manager and will be in the morning."
But asked if they would still be in charge against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, Hutchins added: "You will have to ask owner Marcus Evans that."
Nigel Clough was delighted to see Derby extend their unbeaten run to five games with another late winner and said: "Some of our play in the second half was exceptionally good.
"You always worry you have so much of the play without scoring but it was great Nathan Tyson got the late winner."
Town had an early chance as Lee Martin stepped inside John Brayford, but his low shot was saved by Adam Legzdins, who also denied Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.
Legzdins, signed from Burton, was helpless after 24 minutes as DJ Campbell's shot squirmed into the net as Derby claimed offside.
It was Campbell's second dubious goal for Ipswich after netting on his debut against Cardiff with his hand but a mistake from Danny Higginbotham, on loan from Stoke and looking for a permanent deal, allowed Connor Sammon a chance and on-loan keeper Stephen Henderson fumbled to allow Theo Robinson to equalise.
Jewell threw on strikers Michael Chopra and Jason Scotland as he searched for victory but his side were caught on the break in the 90th minute as Sammon moved into the box down the right channel and slid a low cross in for substitute Tyson to poke in from close range and seal Town's fate.
