Match Report

More misery for Town by Rich Godden

Ipswich’s plight continued on Saturday, with Horacio Carbonari scoring the only goal of a disappointing game to give Derby all three points at Portman Road.

The Argentine defender turned in a low Rob Lee cross in first half stoppage time to open the scoring and ultimately win the game for the Rams.

Before the goal, chances were few and far between in a game that left you under no illusion why these two teams failed to survive the drop from the Premiership last season. If anything, it was the visitors who looked the more dangerous, with Adam Bolder going close in the first minute.

Derby started the second half the better team also, with Paul Boertian having an effort cleared off the line and Izale McLeod having a goal ruled out for offside. Darren Bent should have equalised for Town, but fired a Jermaine Wright centre over the crossbar.

Ipswich have now not won in the league since mid-August, and have slipped into the bottom four in the table. However, due to the UEFA Cup commitments, George Burley’s men do have games in hand to make some ground on their opponents.
