Match Report

Hull City 3-1 Ipswich

Henrik Pedersen thought he had seen the last of the Premier League when Bolton showed him the door at the end of last season.

The former Denmark international was released after making just a handful of appearances in recent times while struggling to overcome a long-standing Achilles injury.

He was offered the chance to return to Danish side Silkeborg on a short-term contract and turn his back on English football.

That was until Tigers manager Phil Brown gave him the opportunity to get fit again and become part of the revolution under big-spending chairman Paul Duffen.

Now the future is looking bright for 34-year-old after he scored two goals on his full league debut for Hull as he inspired them to their second home win of the season.

Brown is hoping to sign Middlesbrough defender Andrew Davies this week to compliment the arrivals of Pedersen, Jay-Jay Okocha and Caleb Folan.

And if all goes to plan, Pedersen could soon be back in the top flight.

He said: "When Bolton released me my thoughts were to return to Denmark. Then Phil Brown rang me up. We had a chat and he impressed me with the ambition the club had.

"I've had some good sessions to get fit. The club have been patient and so have the fans. It's nice to get the goals to help repay them for sticking by me.

"I knew I could come back. I have not played that much football for the last two or three years so it has been very frustrating.

"Hopefully now those times are all behind me."

Ipswich struck the woodwork twice before Pedersen pounced in the 11th and 39th minutes to put the Tigers in firm control.

Wayne Brown made it 3-0 on 43 minutes before Dan Harding pulled one back on the stroke of half time but it was never going to be enough.

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton said: "We were on top but the goals we gave away were dreadful, to be honest.

"You can't defend like that at this level and get away with it. You get punished and that is exactly what happened."
