Ipswich went into the game without a string of players with Sam Parkin and Jay McEveley long-term absentees, Ian Westlake and Owen Garvan ruled out and defender Fabian Wilnis suspended.

Wolves, with injury problems of their own, were without Kenny Miller (flu), Paul Ince (thigh), Carl Cort (knee), Mark Davies (hernia) and Jackie McNamara (knee) as they looked for a fifth consecutive clean sheet.

The hosts began well, keen to bounce back from Monday's last-gasp 2-1 defeat at Cardiff, and were unlucky not to break the deadlock after just six minutes when Richard Naylor narrowly failed to connect with Darren Currie's curling free-kick after peeling off at the near post.

Currie, who was pulling the strings for Joe Royle's men, saw another free-kick sail just past on-loan goalkeeper Stefan Postma's crossbar and was left cursing the Aston Villa man after he parried a volley to safety from a delicate Gavin Williams cross.

Williams was booked for dissent soon after and the visitors began to get a foothold in the game.

Tom Huddlestone, enjoying his loan spell at Wolves from Tottenham, was becoming more influential, forcing a save out of new Wales international Lewis Price in the 20th minute.

Price was thankful Mark Kennedy did not have his shooting boots on as he blazed over from the edge of the box six minutes later and Huddlestone drew ironic cheers from the home fans with a shot which was closer to the corner flag than the net.

Naylor continued to cause problems for the Wolves defence, throwing his head in where it hurts from another Currie corner, but Gyepes - on loan from Ferencvaros - cleared the danger.

Ki-Hyeon Seol, hugging the right touchline at times, was proving influential and the dangerman for the visitors but the final chance of the half fell to Luis Castro Sito, who flashed his shot wide ahead of the half-time whistle.

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle made two changes at the break, bringing on former England midfielder Darren Anderton for George Ndah and switching Huddlestone with Leon Clarke.

But it was a touch of good luck which edged the visitors ahead six minutes after the restart when Cameron's long-range effort deflected past Price.

Cameron - who netted in the reverse fixture earlier this season - let fly from around 30 yards out with a shot which Price appeared to have covered but Jason De Vos' attempted block looped the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net.

Royle responded with a double substitution, bringing on former Wolves striker Adam Proudlock for Dean Bowditch and Kevin Horlock for Jim Magilton.

Horlock was immediately involved, playing his part in the build up as Forster ran at the Wanderers' defence only to be brought down - in the view of the referee - by Gyepes for a penalty.

Richards stepped up to convert the 59th-minute chance but only after Postma got his hands to the kick but was beaten by pace and power.

Anderton wasted the chance to snatch the points when he inexplicably squared the ball into open space when free in the Ipswich area, but the game's golden opportunity was spurned five minutes from time by the otherwise impressive Seol.

The Korean star volleyed high over Price's crossbar from inside the six-yard box with the goal at his mercy - much to the amazement of the 23,563 fans inside the ground.
