Match Report

Ipswich Town 1 West Bromwich Albion 1

Dutchman Richard Sneekes caught Ipswich cold in the 58th minute to save West Brom's unbeaten record for the season.

Breaking from midfield, he latched onto a long ball from substitute David Smith and beat advancing Town keeper Richard Wright.

Until that point Albion had been outplayed but manager Ray Harford's reshuffle in midfield earned the visitors the initiative and broke the Ipswich stranglehold.

Ipswich had enough chances to have won before the interval but it took 40 minutes to open the scoring.

A corner from Simon Milton was flicked on by Mark Venus. Jason Cundy headed back from the far post for Mark Stein to nip in and head home from close range.

A minute later Albion keeper Alan Miller made a flying save from James Scowcroft, the lively England Under-21 striker, who might well have earned two second half penalties by positive running in the box.

Ipswich's near misses included a shot from Stein in the sixth minute and when he blazed over the bar with a free-kick from 20 yards.

Scowcroft was denied by the near post after 21 minutes and Paul Holmes made a goal line clearance to deny Stein just before the interval.

Late in the game Miller saved well from Stein from close range and the visitors will consider themselves fortunate to have come away with a point.
