Match Report

Plymouth 1 Ipswich 1

Plymouth stretched their unbeaten run to seven games but were disappointed not to have secured all three points against 10-man Ipswich.

That run had looked under threat in the very first minute when Ipswich midfielder Sylvain Legwinski latched on to a Matthew Richards corner to blast the visitors ahead.

Undeterred, Plymouth kept their shape and were soon pushing forward in an attempt to redress the balance.

On twelve minutes Akos Buzsaky tested Shane Supple with a cleverly worked free-kick but the young Ipswich goalkeeper was equal to the challenge.

Plymouth continued to press and their efforts were rewarded in the 22nd minute when centre-back Paul Wotton headed home an inswinging corner from six yards for his fourth goal of the season.

Seven minutes later the home side nearly went ahead when Paul Connolly's shot was only just blocked by Jason De Vos.

Ipswich had their backs to the wall and had to wait until the 39th minute before they had another shot on goal.

Former Fulham man Legwinski nearly got his second with a fantastic volley straight from another Richards corner but the ball flew just wide of the goal.

The second half started just as the first had ended with some crunching tackles from both sides.

Ipswich's Fabian Wilnis went into referee Kevin Friend's book 13 minutes after the restart when he clattered Plymouth midfielder Tony Capaldi.

Capaldi was incensed by the challenge and it was not long before he found himself booked for dissent.

Plymouth boss Ian Holloway brought on Barry Hayles and Cherno Samba to try to liven up his ineffectual attack but it was ultimately to no avail.

The fiery nature of the match continued with Dan Harding and Sylvain Legwinski both booked and on 77 minutes Wilnis was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

Ipswich struggled to contain the inevitable onslaught as Plymouth piled on the pressure.

Eleven minutes from time David Norris' shot was tipped over by Supple and Hayles went close from the resulting corner.

Gary Roberts nearly snatched a shock win for the Tractor Boys in the dying minute but his long-range effort was just over the crossbar.
