Match Report

The Bee's Knee's by ChevBlue

A first half goal from Finidi George and a second half brace from Marcus Stewart rounded off an assured performance by the Town as they recorded their fourth successive pre-season victory.

Former Griffin Park favourites Hermann Hreidarsson and Marcus Bent apparently both received a warm reception from the home fans although your erstwhile narrator missed this part of the evenings entertainment as he struggled to down his fourth pint in 45 minutes at the New Inn public house adjacent to the away fans entrance.

Griffin Park as you may know is unique in English Stadia in that it has a pub at all four of its corners and I rather unwisely decided to visit all of them, starting at the Royal Oak and working my way around. Fine if you have plenty of time to spare but not if you arrive with less than an hour to go before kick-off.

Anyway, with that particular feat out of the way it was time to take my seat for the game.

Town were in control from the off and the only surprising element of the evening was that it took them 14 minutes to open the scoring.

After several minutes of pressure on the home goal, Marcus Bent crossed from the right and Finidi George struck the ball home from just inside the penalty area and in off the far post.

Town continued to press for the remainder of the half, but despite numerous decent and half decent chances where unable to extend their lead.

Early in the second half Gottskalsson in the Brentford goal pulled off two excellent saves, first he finger-tipped away a Jamie Clapham volley and minutes later palmed a volley from Matt Holland over the bar.

Another volley from Matt Holland led to Town's second goal in the 66th minute, which Marcus Stewart deflected into the net.

Town were rarely threatened at the back but where somewhat lost with just over a quarter of an hour to play when Brentford's Blackman dribbled across the penalty area but, with the goal gaping, was unable to convert.

Stewart scored his second of the game several minutes later latching onto an excellent through ball from Pablo Counago and lifting the ball over the advancing 'keeper.

Man of the match award to Oli Gottskalsson, the Brentford keeper, who pulled off some excellent saves and kept the scoreline down to a none to embarrassing 3-nil.

Also a special mention for another excellent turn out by Town fan's who, by my reckoning, but not entirely faultless mathematics, numbered around 400.
