Match Report

Port Vale 0 Ipswich Town 3

IPSWICH, without a goal in their first four League matches, ended their famine with a flourish and, in the process, recorded their first League win of the season against an abject Port Vale side who remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

The architect and scorer of that all-important first goal, in the 22nd minute, was James Scowcroft, starting a match for the first time this season, who played a neat ball to Kieron Dyer and then met the returned pass with a firm header.

Despite having taken the lead, though, Ipswich looked far from convincing until David Johnson added the second in the 57th minute. Dyer took a short corner to Bobby Petta, who whipped the ball across for Johnson to rise unchallenged at the near post to head home.

Matthew Holland headed Ipswich's third goal in the dying seconds.
