Match Report

Town collapse at the Reebok

A first half hat-trick by Fredi Bobic saw Ipswich Town slip closer to the Nationwide league. Bolton dominated the match at the Reebok Stadium and Djorkaeff added to Bobic's hat-trick in a convincing first half by the Trotters. Whilst we look to be almost dead and buried, barring a miracle result at one of the top three, Bolton now appear to be clear of relegation.

Bolton started the match better, a fact that made it so much harder for us to get a result, and were in front after just 71 seconds.

Bobic got in the way of Nolan's shot but somehow managed to bring the ball under control before slotting the ball past Andy Marshall.

The Tractor Boys then failed to take advantage when Finidi George crossed for Sixto Peralta. Unfortunately, he didn't bring the ball under control quickly enough and Bolton could clear.

That seemed to deflate our spirits and we would find ourselves the victims of a three-goal blast in 8 minutes by Bolton. Andy Marshall attempted to beat Rod Wallace to a Djorkaeff through ball. Marshall failed to get there first but superbly clawed Wallace's shot away only for Fredi Bobic to knock the ball into an empty net.

Marshall would blunder again just five minutes later when he sliced a clearance straight to Bobic. The German crossed for Wallace and, although his effort was heading wide, Djorkaeff managed to reach it and sweep the ball home. Three minutes later it was 4-0. Bobic flicked a header towards goal and, despite Fabian Wilnis' best efforts, the ball bundled in.

George Burley rung the changes at half time and one of them, Jamie Clapham, put in an inspired second half performance to no avail.

Despite the change of personnel, we did little to threaten the keeper until the game was nearing its end. Jamie Clapham grabbed a late consolation goal but relegation is now almost a certainty.
