Match Report

Mick's a dream

Mick Mill's first FA Cup goal for three years fired dreams of Wembley in East Anglia last night.

The last time the Ipswich captain scored in the cup - against Liverpool in 1975 - Bobby Robson's team reached the semi-final's for the first time in their history.

His latest goal, poached at a time when Bristol Rovers were at their most menacing in this fifth round replay, created the platform for Ipswich to secure a quarter-final tie at Millwall.

Mills, who made his 500th appearance for the club at the weekend, said: "A Wembley appearance for Ipswich is my No. 1 ambition.

"In thirteen years with club it has been obvious that there's nothing that our fans would like more than to see their team in action at Wembley in the FA Cup final."

Rovers, whose dramatic revival under new manager Bobby Campbell had made them the most improved side in the country, faded out of contention once the Ipswich captain had converted Clive Woods 27th minute corner.

In the second half, Woods claimed Portman Road as his personal stage.

He provided a delicate chip from the left wing in the 58th minute to enable PAUL MARINER to place a gentle header deliberately wide of goalkeeper Martin Thomas

Then WOODS gave us a goal to remember.

He killed Colin Viljoen's cutting pass, checked his stride, jinked his was through Rovers' straggled defence and bent the ball brilliantly into the top corner of the net from 25 yards.
