Match Report

Bradford City 2 Ipswich Town 1

Bradford established themselves among the early pacesetters in the first division after extending their unbeaten run to three matches with a 2-1 win over Ipswich at Valley Parade.

Swedish striker Robert Steiner put Bradford ahead after ten minutes when he headed winger Peter Beagrie's left-wing cross into the empty net.

But the home side had to survive some sustained Ipswich pressure to hold onto their lead at half time.

Ipswich's new loan signing Mark Stein from Chelsea went closest to equalising after 33 minutes, with a back-header which goalkeeper Mark Prudhoe produced a superb reflex save.

Bradford increased their lead after 52 minutes with an unfortunate own goal by Ipswich defender Jason Cundy who could only play the ball into his own net as he tried to cut out a left wing cross from Brazilian striker Edhino.

At that stage Bradford looked set for a decisive win, but Ipswich pulled a goal back after 74 minutes through 18-year-old midfield player Keiron Dyer his first for the club.

However, Bradford held onto their lead in a tension-packed last 15 minutes to preserve their unbeaten run.
