Capped at U-18 and U-20 levels by Ireland, O`Callaghan was Port Vale`s Young Player of the Year in 1997 and won an LDV Vans Trophy medal with the Valiants in 2001. He moved to Cork City In May 2002, playing in the Irish Eircom League side that won the Championship title in the 2004-05 season, a campaign that also saw him named League Player of The Year.
